5 Stylish Ways to Keep Warm at Home

Keep the Warmth in- add curtains to doors and windows
The temperature is dropping, there's ice on the roads and snow on the hills. Winters here and although its really beautiful out in the wild world it can be uncomfortable and too cold at home. Not everyone has a super insulated home so we have put together some home accessory ideas to keep you warm this winter.

Add Curtains

Some of us don't have the luxury of double glazing or sometimes live in an old home with weak windows. The best way to keep the heat in is to add good thick curtains. They can be stylish and add some extra warmth to the home through their look as well as practically. A top tip is to add curtains to doorways as well, they can be more stylish then the traditional sausage dog draft excluder and they protect against gaps around the full size of the door, not just the floor gap.

Blankets, Throws & Cushions

Nothing feels as cosy as adding blankets and cushions to your bed or couch. It makes us feel warmer by the colours and textures and of course you can snuggle up in them when its chilly. Add some to your bed so you can grab an extra layer as the temperature drops through the night.

Light Some Candles

Though they will not emit huge amounts of heat, they do still give off some warmth and importantly light. The subtle lighting makes you feel warmer and choosing scented candles that make you feel toasty, like spiced orange or cinnamon, can add to this effect. Just lowering the lighting to just candles and side lamps with warm coloured bulbs will add to the relaxing and homey atmosphere. We love these nordic decorations featuredhere

Rugs and carpets

Whether you have carpets, wood or tiled floors adding a rug can add alot of warmth to an environment, especially for your frozen feet. Even with carpets rugs will keep more heat escaping through the floor. You can add one large rug to a room but layering lots of rugs will add lots of interest to a space and keep you nice and toasty. The layers in the homes above are wonderful, we like the neutral colours mixed with stand out zebra print and the more global look in this bohemian home.

Give Plants A Chance

You'd be surprised by how much heat a plant can generate while living in your home but it's definitely worth giving it a go. Not only do plants clean your air they also let out water and heat as they respire. They make rooms more humid and humid air is warmer than dry air, just be wary of putting too many plants in kitchens and bathroom as they are already very wet places and susceptible to mould.
